Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Sep 18, 2024

Prostate Cancer Awareness, also commonly known as Blue September is recognised each year in September.  Prostate cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers among men in New Zealand.

Blue September serves as important reminder of the value of early detection and regular health check-ups.  The Prostate Cancer Foundation New Zealand recommends that men over 50 (40+ if known family history) be tested at least every one to two years.

A prostate cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, and patients often face numerous physical, emotional, and psychological challenges. Canopy Cancer Care offers comprehensive support and personalized treatment options for prostate cancer patients to help them navigate their prostate journey with confidence.

There have been significant advancements in prostate cancer treatment in recent years. The team at Canopy Cancer Care is made up of clinical experts including Oncologists, Nurse Practitioners and Specialist Oncology nurses.  This combined care team ensures that our patients have access to the latest and most effective treatment options.

At Canopy Cancer Care, patients experience a compassionate and patient-centered environment where their emotional well-being and comfort are prioritised. The team recognises the anxiety and stress associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment, and so provides ancillary support through an extensive network of wellbeing practitioners including psychologists, dietitians, oncology physiotherapists and more.

Beyond the active treatment phase, Canopy Cancer Care is able to provide long-term management, regular check-ups, and monitoring. This approach gives patients a sense of security, knowing that their journey with prostate cancer is not isolated but supported by a dedicated team.
