Bringing World-Class Cancer Care and Imaging Under One Roof in Hawke’s Bay

Canopy Healthcare has opened its first co-located cancer care and diagnostic imaging clinics at Kaweka Hospital, Hastings, bringing world-class integrated healthcare closer to home for the Hawke’s Bay community.

This marks a significant milestone for Canopy Healthcare, with Canopy Cancer Care and Canopy Imaging now co-located in a purpose-built facility designed to support every stage of the patient journey. From diagnosis to treatment, the new clinics reflect Canopy’s commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care and improved regional access for patients.

Canopy’s services at Kaweka Hospital include oncology treatment and care, alongside a comprehensive range of traditional and advanced imaging.  Services include MRI, CT, X-ray and breast imaging, ultrasound with Canopy Imaging’s Molecular Imaging & Therapy Centre, located just across the carpark. The opening  of New Zealand’s first regional PET/SPECT scanner in late 2024, plus the co-location of Canopy Imaging and Canopy Cancer Care confirms Canopy Healthcare’s long-term commitment to the Hawke’s Bay region.

Dr Claudia Wyss, CEO of Canopy Healthcare, “This integrated approach means people in Hawke’s Bay can access leading cancer care and therapies, including advanced oncology treatments, without needing to travel far from their homes, families, and support networks.  It is significant that we can also offer our patients scans and imaging within the same facility as where their treatment and consultations will occur.”

Toni Sinclair, General Manager of Canopy Imaging agrees. “At Canopy Imaging, our focus is on delivering high-quality, timely diagnostic services in a setting that supports both patients and clinical teams.  Being co-located with Canopy Cancer Care at Kaweka Hospital allows us to work more closely with our cancer specialists, other referring specialists  and to provide an elevated level of diagnostic imaging and staging, while continuing to serve a wide range of patients across the region.”

The imaging and cancer care clinics offer a calm, welcoming environment where state-of-the-art technology meet specialist expertise. The clinic’s design draws inspiration from local forests and rivers in the region, reinforcing Canopy’s commitment to patient-centred care by ensuring every patient and visitor feels at ease and confident they are in skilled, caring hands.

“We’ve designed every detail with our patients in mind, guided by their needs and feedback,” says Phillipa Green, General Manager of Canopy Cancer Care. “This clinic is about delivering the very best care when and where patients need it, in an environment that feels calm, supportive, and truly centred around their wellbeing.”

This clinic represents the latest phase in Canopy Healthcare’s continued investment in New Zealand’s health system, supporting both public and private healthcare. With significant invested across their Hastings and Napier facilities, the organisation is actively helping to increase regional care, reduce travel burdens, improve access and support iwi and public health partners in delivering better health outcomes for all.
